This electroconductive stone provides protection from electromagnetic radiation and microwaves. Amazonite is composed of potassium feldspar and a type of igneous rock known as Microcline. This mineral has been admired for centuries and bears the name of the Amazon River due to its mesmerizing blue-green colors. A distinct glimmer is emitted from the Amazonite crystal, reminiscent of sunbeams reflecting off the Amazon river.
Amazonite has been embraced by artisans for many years, as it is thought to stoke creativity and fuel artistic dreams. It can be light green to dark blue-green, and usually has white patterns. Early cultures in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia began using the gemstone to make jewelry and decorate around 5200BCE. While amazonite is also found in Brazil (Minas Gerais, Paraíba, and Rio Grande do Norte) and Peru (Huancavelica province), there is no known source of the mineral within the Amazon rainforest or nearby the river after which it is named.
